Budget Staging Tip: Frame Your Own Photography

The best staged homes use the same artist or genre of art throughout a home to give it a fluid, seamless look and feel. While lovely and effective, this look can be too expensive to be accessible for the average staged home. One way to achieve this look without spending hundreds of dollars is to play photo scavenger in your own city, in search of beautiful flowers, landscapes, monuments and architecture. My favorite places to visit for usable photography include local botanical gardens and arboretums. To the left is one example of a photo taken at my local arboretum that could be framed to add to the décor of a staged home. I am especially fond of photographs of nature since every good design project should have a touch of nature. In Washington, DC, we not only have numerous world- class monuments and museums to choose from, we have beautiful natural landscapes and rivers abound.

This week the cherry blossoms will be in bloom. You can rest assured that I'll be down on the tidal basin with camera in tow. Look for framed cherry blossom photographs in a staged home near you! Happy photographing!
