Break the Rules!!

Does Staging your home mean that you have to remove all personality? Is it possible for a Staged home to have personality? The resounding unmitigated answer is yes, yes, yes! You can Stage a home to be appealing to a great number of people without removing all personality. The great Staging secret is that most home buyers are looking for two things: organization and balance. Certainly you don’t want to display anything that might incite strong feelings one way or another, i.e. velvet Elvis painting, but that does not mean that your home has to be boring. You can really use any color palette you want as long as the use of color is balanced and the place looks organized. Neutrals are not the one and only way to go (sorry rulebook!). This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t depersonalize. You should absolutely limit personal photos and objects that refer to your family in particular. But as far color schemes go, the object is to show the home in the best light possible. I guess there are some exceptions to my non-rule. The use of the color pink is one is them. You can use pink in moderation but too much pink and it starts to look childish, like a doll house, which is not only limiting but revolting to some people.

Simple Staging Rules you should abide by:
• Make sure the place is very, very clean
• Make sure that nothing offensive is displayed
• Divide the room into four quadrants; ensure that all four quadrants of the room are balanced
• Make sure visitors can move with ease throughout the space
• Send pets to the kennel during open houses
• Make sure there is no obvious odor
• Make sure that every room has a focal point

  1. Home Staging Business is a great business simply because it allows you to take advantage of your own creativity, your eye for design and what you love and do best. The flexibility of time management is another factor that makes it great.
